Buahan A

Banyan Tree Escape

Bali

As far as hospitality concepts go, nothing really surprises anymore, but as they also say, the truth is in the details. A bold departure from conventional resorts tried and tested, Banyan Tree's first Escape property is an adults-only retreat designed to blend seamlessly into virgin topography with a patchwork of sumptuous bales imbued with unobstructed 360 degrees views of the surrounding valleys wherever one turns, made possible with the simple exclusion of walls and doors. The lack of such an essential feature has elicited excitement just as it has raised brows, and while reviews have been somewhat mixed, Banyan Tree is definitely on the cusp of something sensational with this glam camp. Luxuriating in the midst of such primordial splendour isn't about keeping the elements out anymore, and on hindsight that seems like such a perfectly reasonable endeavour one wonders why the concept is such a rarity in the first place. But of course, this exposure to the elements is expertly controlled, as are all other operational aspects on and around resort grounds, thereby lifting Buahan to stratospheric new heights on the global register.

While at Buahan a Banyan Tree Escape,
why don't you ...

  • Even without walls, the freedom to revel in seclusion here is simply unrivalled. With no signs of existence around the resort but vast tracts of forests, this is about as otherworldly as resorts can possibly get.

  • Buahan means fruit in Bahasa and befittingly enough, most of the ingredients used by the chefs here are mostly sourced from the immediate region with a 'zero food waste' concept in place. Forget about hoity toity imported hams and get ready to tuck into some homemade smoked ham that are simply sensational.

  • The Toja Spa is located close to the river and is an open air concept aimed at fostering connections with the earth. The masseuses here are stupendously dextrous and can be booked for in-villa treatments too.

  • There are plenty of activities resort staff can stage if one is keen to explore the area. One of the excursions involves a purification ritual at a local sacred waterfall that requires some 1000 steps up and down some rugged terrains. As they say, you've gotta have faith before taking the descend.
