Until very recently Guangzhou's tallest hotel, FS GZ

has a vantage point that conjures the dizzying height this trade city aspires to. A suite on its top floors offer both views and satisfaction, whether one is temporarily playing house or is barely there on business, because this is an address that gets recognition. The ID may be a bit safe but there are still captivating accents aplenty. The bath for example, would be a cardinal waste if left unused.

White Swan Hotel is a heritage address that is rare in China - a state-run enterprise with a superb command of what constitutes luxury hospitality in a landscape dominated by foreign forces. After an exhaustive renovation that injected contemporary lifeblood into all its rooms and public spaces, a stay here is a study of the multiple gumptions management has adopted to maintain standards. The restaurants here by far are its biggest success, with its morning dim-sums the stuff of legends.

A comfortable business hotel that is ubiquitous in growing cities all over China, this hotel is lifted out of the ordinary with quirky French accents that are generously sprinkled over all Sofitel properties. The delectable Maofeng tea served at its club lounge was the only surprise that greeted us over our review stay in 2019.

Superbly located right next to the Guangzhou convention and exhibition center, this business hotel dressed subtly in pink accents is impossible to book over the Canton Fair periods. Abiding by the Langham DNA, its Chinese restaurant Ming Court offers a stately dining experience well worth a visit.
