The progenitor of the chain with more than 3 decades under its belt, Parkroyal Penang is today a refreshed presence along the Batu Ferringhi stretch, staring down olden rivals and taunting their lack of upkeep despite their erstwhile repute. Wonderful gardens and a buzzling beach are the capital allures of this tropical resort, with its freeform pools and outdoor recreational facilities fixed right in the midst of it all. The lowdown of such excellent attractions are of course the multitude of holiday makers who'd descended in droves to capitalise on the sun, sea and sand. The ID blueprint of a Parkroyal property is currently amongst the most invariable in the business so one's sentiments on hotel countenance post-renovation will depend largely on whether one is partial towards a palette of brown, beige and greys. Exciting it isn't but within such familiarity one might find comfort.

Coincidentally or otherwise, the sunsets viewed from this resort are the best we have seen for quite a while. While one can gawk from anywhere when that sky presents itself, sipping wine at Gustoso by the Beach before tucking into rustic Italian fares would be a top option.

Passion Garden conjures nightcaps that send one into a restful evening. That of course is pure metaphorical musings but truth be told the cocktails crafted here are indeed shaken with much care and creativity.
