Amansara
Once the private guesthouse of King Norodom Sihanouk, this restored hideaway is a regal vision of elegance and refinement, with a lavish interior birthed from the swinging 60s and swathed by clusters of handsome greens.
The Amansara restaurant serves superb breakfasts and afternoon teas laden with tempting delights and sweet confections. For lunch and dinner, Cambodian fares take centrestage with a menu that changes daily. The Aman Spa is simply gorgeous with lavish suites and sumptuous treatments skillfully executed by experienced hands.
Aman resorts generally offer no surprises in the service aspect as staff are uniformly trained to be beyond thoughtful, their grand expertise extending from expedient check-ins to fastidious housekeeping rigours. The regal touches, like King Sihanouk's old limousine, lovingly restored to ferry guests across town, are just cream on a very good cake.
A heritage property left largely as it was structure wise, the grounds here are generously endowed with elegant lawns and light drenched walkways. The suites are attractive modern nests treated to a starkly black and white theme, though quite forward in conception, is not incongruous with the cultural effulgence of the destination.
